Sunderland fans and former players pay tribute to Márton Fülöp - five years after he sadly passed away

Fülöp passed away in 2015 at the age of 32, after a battle with cancer.

The Hungarian had played for the Black Cats between 2007 and 2010, making 50 appearances for the club in the Championship and Premier League.

He enjoyed a long career in the English game, having initially moved to the country in 2004 when signing for Tottenham Hotspur.

Fulop spent three years at White Hart Lane, taking in loan spells at Chesterfield and Coventry City, before joining Sunderland.

After leaving Wearside in 2010, Fulop spent time with Ipswich Town and West Bromwich Albion before announcing his retirement from the game in 2013.

And fans from across the country paid tribute to the stopper on social media today – including these messages from Sunderland supporters:

And former Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand tweeted: “RIP the big man still can’t believe it”.

Meanwhile on Facebook, Stepehen Cairns posted; “Far too young. RIP. The sport lost a nice guy”

Andrew Stewart Neil added: “Rest in peace so very sad"

Tony Shepherd commented; “RIP. Taken far too soon.”
