THE lights went out for Biddick A as they suffered a surprising 4-1 defeat at Woodside A in the first division of the Westoe Removals Sunderland Snooker League.

Wayne Bowmaker won the first 57-2 before Gary Albett took the second 71-39. Mick Riley stemmed the rot before Chris Grimmer restored the lead in the fourth, and Johnson and Ablett claimed the pairs for Woodside.

Farringdon A kept their position with a 4-1 win against Mill View A with Tom Feenan having a 36 break and Ryan McKenna a 41 in winning the first two frames.

Adam Burnell took the third 57-32 against Mick McLoughlin to reduce the lead before Ian Stewart struggled in winning the fourth for Farringdon.

Good safety play by Tony Hazzard aided Gary Burden in winning the pairs.

Hylton B beat their A team. Ed Norton took the first frame before Bob Boyce levelled. Daz Haram and Chris Watkin then took the B team into a 3-1 advantage before Leslie and Brown claimed a 58-47 pairs frame for the A team.

The Knack are not showing last year’s form. Mark Anderson and Joe Turner gave Pennywell Comrades a two-frame lead before Gary Stockton, with a 36 break in the third and George Dormand with a 22 break in the fourth, made it level. But the first two Comrades winners claimed the pairs for a 3-2 success.

Mill View B lost the first two frames to visitors Woodside B. Dave Manning potted well and came back in winning the first, while Ritchie Milner was impressive in the second, taking an early advantage with a 34 break.

Carl Davis battled back with a 23 break and could have won on the last three colours on the table before Milner settled the result.

John Spruce and Steven Chandler took the next two for Mill View, but the home team had little chance in the pairs as Jason Qazi compiled a nice 41 opening break and controlled the frame.

Dean Taylor took the first for Pennywell B, and Mark Bell had a 40 break in replying for Washington Snooker in the second. Stuart Coffee restored the lead and this was increased by Steve Joyce in the fourth. Bell and Herbert took the pairs to claim the 3-2 result.

Gary Moore gave the Avenue a start by winning the first frame but Steels replied by talking the next three singles and then the pairs in a thriller – potting the black to win 49-48. Green Baize met Whitburn and had a bad night, losing 4-1 despite turning out a strong team.

Washington Snooker B have taken the lead in Division Two after a 5-0 win against Murton Officials with good breaks in all of the frames. Gavin Dixon, Billy Shotton, Gary Bell, Alex Hannan with 22, 23, 24 and 35 respectively in the singles and Gary Bell, with a 56 in the pairs, gave their opponents little chance of recovery.

Cheema were not to be outdone and kept in touch with a 4-1 win against Murton Vic. Stephen Clemontson of Murton had an unfortunate night, meeting Mark Farnsworth in his singles then again in the pairs. Colin Dobson took the consolation for Murton.

Biddick B have come into contention and a 4-1 win against St Gabriel’s moved them into third place. Michael Simpson beat Bill Longley in a close 51-49 first frame with Peter Mills and John Temple winning the next two.

Tony Grimes pulled one back before a close 47-43 pairs went to Philip Straughan and Peter Mills.

Richard Cougle lost the first frame against Cheema B before Seaham Cons took the next four in a 4-1 result.

Glendale keep on winning 3-2 and took the first two against Cheema A with Craig Bell having a 30 break before Lee Campion responded in the third.

John Wiseman restored the lead and Cheema took the pairs.

Victory and Washington Union had a tough match with three of the frames ending in very close finishes. John Butler won 45-43 for Victory while Tony Lyons pinched the frame 47-46 against Alan Hough and Telford and Stafford won the pairs 61-57 for Washington.

Derek Collins is turning back the clock with good performances for Washington Snooker C, and had breaks of 41 and 21 against Farringdon B. His team lost 59-48 H Members are welcome to attend a handicap meeting being held at the Railway on Thursday.
