Woodside demolish Steels to take top spot

A SHOCK 4-0 win for Woodside B against a weakened Steels B took them to the top of Group One of the Westoe Removals Sunderland League.

Ritchie Milner beat Tom Feenan 52-24, and Jasan Qazi followed up with a 48-33 against Neil McLaren.

Dave Manning resisted a brave attempt by Ron Howard, who finally went down 52-42, before Qazi and Milner overcame McLaren and Howard.

Farringdon won 3-1 at Green Baize, Andrew Grant gave Farringdon a solid start.

Tony Hazard beat Peter Dambrosie before Ian Stewart dominated the third, aided by breaks of 39 and 28.

A break of 30 by Dean Wilson was the deciding factor as the Baize took the pairs.

The Duck lost the first frame against Pennywell A before Neil Thubron and Lee Dixon hit back. Dowell and Kemp claimed the pairs in a 3-1 results.

The main winners in Group Two this week was Pennywell B, who beat Cheema C 4-0.

Dean Taylor won a tight first frame before Steve Joyce and Bob Klein took the next two and Stuart Taylor and Dean Taylor took the pairs.

Paul Grant won the first frame for Farringdon B, but finished on the losing side as Mark Bell and Graham Rutland won the next two singles and combined in winning the pairs for Washington Snooker.

Murton Officials beat Steels A 3-1. M Singh took the first before Jim Gales beat Stephen Clementson to level. Robin Midson won the fourth and joined Jim Ashcroft in winning the pairs.

Hylton are dominating Group Three and with a 4-0 against Cheema B moved them three points ahead of the second-placed team.

Avenue are in a similar situation in second place, affected by a 3-1 win against third-placed Seaham Knack.

Gary Moore took the first frame against Glen Edwards, and Chris Henderson increased the lead. Stephen Henderson replied for Seaham in the third before Moore and Henderson completed a double over their previous victims in the pairs.

In Group Four, Hylton helped their cause by a 3-1 against Mill View A with Kev Stabler scoring well in the first frame. Chris Watkin increased the lead before Peter Davies replied for Mill View. Watkin and Haram won the pairs for the match result.

Mill View B had their second 4-0 win in the match against Cheema A to take a lead in Group Five. John Spruce had a 87-55 win against Gurj Cheema followed by Ken Sands and Carl Davis in the next two singles. Sands was in fine form as, twinned with Sid Bate, they claimed the pairs 59-47 against Gurj Cheema and Michael Austin.

H Trophy winners are asked to arrive early in time for the photographer at the presentation evening at Hylton Social on Thursday.

The forms for registration for the Winter Season were given to the represenatives at the monthly meeting.
