LAST weekend saw entrants of the Cyclo Cross North East League take on round nine at Durham University Cricket Club.
It was a special weekend with Saturday’s race, which included the Durham University Championship, followed by the Elite racers of Cyclocross competing in The National Trophy event on the Sunday.
Over 307 competed across the four races on Saturday and the colours of Houghton were clearly visible with no fewer than eight riders pitting their wits against the tough, technical course.
Houghton’s Paul Whitehill carried his excellent form in to the Vets V40 race.
Another strong controlled ride saw Paul complete seven laps in a time of 50:07 for 27th place.
Alan Nixon (Blackhawk Bikes) was once again victorious in a time of 49:52 for eight laps.
Houghton’s ever increasing Vets team saw all riders complete the course.
In the later event, Dave Stevens, Houghton’s only Senior rider, again conquered the course with his usual aplomb to finish the longer Seniors race in a time of one hour eight minutes.
This race saw first and second separated by a photo finish.
However, winner David Lines (Starley Pro Cycling) pipped Keith Murray (Pioneer Scott Syncros) by one 20th of a second.
