SUNDERLAND Golf Centre’s Stephen McNally is one of two North East PGA players taking part in the prestigious ISPS Handa PGA Seniors Championship next week.

McNally joins Graeme Bell (Eaglescliffe) in taking on a host of star players including former Ryder Cup captains Sam Torrance and Mark James and numerous past Ryder Cup players as they tee up in the £235,000 tournament at Stoke by Nayland from June 5-8.

Stephen and Graeme both qualified thanks to top-20 finishes in the recent Senior PGA Professional Championship at Foxhills Resort, Surrey.

But the man to beat will be Paul Wesselingh, the reigning European Senior Tour when Torrance and Carl Mason were the respective winners.

Previous champions of the European Senior Tour’s oldest tournament include Open winners Max Faulkner, Kel Nagle and Peter Thomson, while Christy O’Connor lifted the PGA Seniors trophy six times.
