WASHINGTON Snooker A showed their class as they improved their position at the top of the Westoe Removals Sunderland Snooker League Division One after a 5-0 whitewash of the ‘B’ team.
After slipping recently, Whitburn found their form to renew their challenge for the runner-up position with an outstanding performance against second-placed Green Baize.
Breaks of 49 and 29 by Paul Gavin saw the frame put out of reach of Peter Dambrosie in the first, before Dean Wilson replied with a 33-break in the second for the visitors.
Derek White beat Craig Kane 70-26 in the third, before Phil Freeman had a 44-break and clinched the fourth frame.
John Smith and Derek White completed the 4-1 result with a hard fought 65-40 win in the pairs.
Steels started brightly as Adam Smith took the first against Michael Brough, before Terry Froud responded for Biddick A.
Ken Haley and Graham Smith had a close third frame as Haley restored the lead before Dave Adamson had a 35-break when levelling the match.
Tom Ayre and Jimmy Gales kept their cool and won the match for Steels with a 62-45 result in the pairs.
John Burnell took the first frame 50-22, for Mill View A, against Glendale before Frank McParlin responded by winning the second.
John Wiseman and John Danby took the next two frames to put Glendale into a match winning 3-1 lead, before Wiseman and Danby took the pairs, with John Danby contributing with a 30-break.
The Avenue took the first two frames against Jordons B, with Bob Boyce and Mark Fox showing their capabilities with sterling performances.
Ritchie Milner is always dangerous and pulled one back in the third, and then Wayne Foreman levelled the match.
Bob Boyce had a 44-break, and twinned with Kevin Harrop, they soon put the pairs out of sight with a 89-15 score to claim the match for the Avenue 3-2.
Seaham Knack are struggling for players due to work commitments and a grateful Mill View B took advantage to register a 4-1 victory.
Gary Simpson took the first, before Steve Chandler eventually won the second on the black after being put under pressure by George Dormand, who lead for most of the frame.
A close frame went to John Spruce, who produced a wonder shot in potting the pink leaving a black for the game.
The pairs between Spruce and Bate and Dormand and Stockton ebbed too and flow before the Knack claimed it on the pink.

Peter Mills and Tom Watson won the next two, before Michael Austin replied for Cheema.
Peter Straughan and Peter Mills collected an extra point by winning the pairs.
Michael Monaghan and Gordon Elliott won the first two frames for Seaham Cons, before Will Cowell rolled back the years with a 55-33 success in the next frame.
Robert Cougle tasted success in the fourth, before Michael Burnkell and Brian Parkin claimed a point in winning the pairs for Pennywell Comrades C.
Murton Vic had a good 4-1 win against St Gabriel’s after losing the first frame, with Steve Hagel performing well in a 64-25 result.
Stephen Cook started the comeback, followed by Stephen Clementson and Eddie Williamson, aided by a 38-break in the next two.
Eddie Williamson and Dale Green Field took the pairs to complete a good night for Murton.
The Victory enjoyed a 3-2 success against the Railway, with Nobby Newby and Darren Dowell starting things off by winning the first two frames.
After losing the third frame, the Victory replied as Ray James won a tight fourth with a 51-49 win against Norman Lynn.
Lynn and Sugden won the pairs for the Railway.
H In the inter-club match between Lumley ‘A’ and ‘B’, it was the A team who emerged as the 4-1 victors.
