DURHAM University firsts return to action on Saturday, looking to consolidate their joint-top position in the Investec Women’s League’s Conference North.

After a week off, Sophie Hawkins’ side host seventh-top Liverpool Sefton at Maiden Castle (1.30pm). Durham have won six of their seven matches so far, with Cherry Seaborn’s last-gasp winner seeing off Wakefield and Bradford in their most recent outing two weeks ago.

The students’ second team secured a fourth straight win, 2-0 against Kendal, to move within a point of the leaders in the North League Premier Division. Ailsa Mackie’s side entertain Whitley Bay and Tynemouth seconds at Maiden Castle on Saturday (11.30am).

H Sunderland Broom suffered their first home defeat at Sandhill View in the North League’s Division Two North East, going down 3-1 to second-top Newcastle firsts.

Steph Edmundson’s side are away to Whitley Bay and Tynemouth thirds on Saturday (noon).

The division’s top game sees unbeaten table-toppers Durham City firsts up against Durham University thirds, who boast a 100 per cent record.
