Steels increase their lead in snooker with stunning win

STEELS B produced some stunning individual performances away at Mill View A with all of their players playing their part in a 5-0 success.

It was close in the singles, but it was the pairs that claimed another point for Steels, to help increase their lead at the top of Division One of the Westoe Removals Sunderland Snooker League.

Hylton have a game in hand and at the moment and appear to be the only team with a realistic chance of pressurising the leaders.

Hylton visited Woodside and won 4-1 when they were given a dream start as Norman Leslie, who took the first frame, before Bob Boyce and Darren Brown took the next two. A 31 break by Wayne Foreman gave Woodside the fourth before Leslie Harrop took the pairs for Hylton.

Washington Snooker met a revitalised Mill View B and shared the two opening frames with Ken Sands and Mark Bell taking the frames.

Norman Brown and John Spruce continued their run of good form to take Mill View into a 3-1 led before Sands and Chandler took the pairs for an impressive 4-1 to Mill View.

Phil Freeman took the first frame for Whitburn and Ernie Lunney and Jason Rodgers took the next two to give Whitburn a 3-0 advantage. Mark Anderson responded in taking the fourth for Pennywell Cons A, before Freeman and Lunney completed the win for Whitburn.

Tom Ayre had a 30 break in the second frame to level against Woodside A, before Chris Grimmer and Jim Gales shared the next two to take the match into a deciding pairs frame, that was won by Ablett and Bowmaker.

After a fine start, Seaham Knack are starting to slip and a 3-2 defeat away at Hylton saw them drop to mid table. Glen Edward and Gary Dormand took the first two frames before a good reply from Chris Watkin, Gary Andrews in the remaining singles and Haram and Watkin in the pairs, completed a perfect recovery for Hylton.

Peter Dambrosie and Ken McDermott shared the opening two frames in the match between Pennywell Coms B and Green Baize, before Craig Kane dominated the third.

Steve Joyce had a 32 in defeating Jeff Burn who had his revenge as twinned with Kane they took the pairs for a 3-2 success.

Farringdon lost the first two frames before replying to take the last three against the Avenue.

St Gabriel’s met the force of Biddick A, although Bill Long had a good game, before losing 47/39 to Terry Froud. Graham Smith won the second before Mike Riley and Dave Adamson took the remaining singles for a 4-0 lead. Rackstraw and Grimes responded well in the pairs to prevent the whitewash.

Although Grindon won 4-1 against Seaham Cons but it was not as simple as it seemed as Ryan McKenna scraped through the first against Richard Cougle. Gary Burden and Ken Gibson had a high scoring 81-50 second frame before Neil Brigham took Grindon into a 3-0 lead. Gordon Elliott had a good result against Alan Mustard to pull one back before Brigham and Mustard only won 46-42 against Cowell and Monaghan in the pairs.

Railway ran out of steam against Biddick B and lost the opening two frames heavily with Peter Mills having a 31 break in the second for Biddick. Fred Warren won the third before Alex Lewins restored the lead in the fourth. Mills and Straughan took the pairs for a 4-1 to Biddick.

Cheema continue to fight and gave Washington Union a hard game before going down 3-2, losing the pairs.

Murton Officials continue their solid form with a 4-1 away at the Victory Club.
