JOHN Squire ended a run of six straight defeats in Seaham’s Coors and Collinson’s Jewellers-sponsored Knack Premier League, securing a 6-2 win over John Allan.
Squire enjoyed winning legs of 16, 18 and 19 darts on his way to an impressive victory.
Allan’s night did not get any better when he was comfortably beaten 6-1 by Steve Skinner.
Paul Williams is proving too strong this season with yet another ruthless performance in a 6-1 thrashing of Anth Skelton.
Williams hit a maximum and a 120 finish in legs of 15, 18 and 19 darts (twice), while Skelton replied with a 21-darter.
Newcomer Dave Brown has replaced Dan Gillibrand and his first task was to halt a resurgent Alan Smith in his quest for a top-eight finish. Smith’s heavy scoring proved too much for Brown in a comfortable 6-2 victory.
Neil Mather, targeting a shot at the main finals night, came unstuck against reigning champion Kevin Guy, who enjoyed two 15-darters and two 18-darters, including a 116 finish, to run out a 6-2 winner.
Neil Richardson took full advantage of a below-par performance by John Redpath with a shock 6-4 victory, which included two 21-darters.
In his second game, Richardson rallied to share the spoils with Spiller Henderson in a 5-5 draw.
Henderson also succumbed 6-2 to Barry Rutherford, who had three 21-dart legs in an impressive all-round display.
Tyne and Wear County player John Nicholson had a mixed night, going down 6-2 to Durham player Davey Thompson before condemning Ray Malarkey to a 12th straight defeat with a 6-0 win which included a 104 checkout.
