The final between South Hylton and Boldon CA brought the curtain down on another successful Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker Summer League.
In the first frame, Hylton’s Adam Smith started strongly against Boldon’s John Smith, and with the aid of a 23 break, managed to build up a good lead, leaving Smith needing two snookers with two reds left on the table.
This brought a response from Smith who was trying hard to get back into the frame and after two excellent snookers managed to get back into it.
Sadly, an unlucky safety shot on the green proved costly for John, potting the black and leaving him requiring snookers again.
Adam finished the frame off potting the final balls to win the frame 87-39.
The second frame saw Graham Rutland face Graeme Ablett, with both players playing off a level start.
The frame started slowly until some small breaks by Graham moved him into a 40 point lead, with only two reds left on the table.
An excellent safety shot had Rutland in trouble and a poor shot by left him in with a chance to get back into the frame.
After a few safety shots, a miss on the brown by Ablett proved costly as a 22 break clearance won Rutland the frame 68-27 to increase Hylton’s lead.
Gavin Dixon and Joe Cromby battled it out in the third frame with Cromby pinching the frame with an excellent 25 clearance.
In the pairs, Rutland and Adam Smith faced John Smith and Cromby.
The frame remined tight with excellent safety and going down to the final colours, Hylton had a slight lead.
A mistake on a tough safety shot by Cromby proved costly as an excellent long pink by Adam won Hylton the frame, the match and the Summer League title.
H The next monthly meeting is on Thursday at South Hylton Club, starting at 7.30pm.
