South Hylton, Glendale and Biddick off to flying starts in Winter League

This week saw the start of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League Winter Season, with three teams stating their intentions from the off.

South Hylton A continued on from their successful Summer League winning campaign with a stunning 5-0 victory over The Hetton Centre.

The result was won thnaks to winning frames coming from Adam Smith, Graham Rutland, Norman Leslie and Gavin Dixon.

In the pairs, a 29-break by Smith, when paired with Leslie, helped win Hylton the frame to complete the whitewash.

Another team to ease to a 5-0 victory was Glendale when they beat The Victory.

Thomas Gwyn, John Danby, John Wiseman and Paul Atkinson clinched winning frames.

In the pairs, Atkinson teamed up with Frank McParlin to complete the clean sweep.

Biddick A travelled to Pennywell Comrades B and came away with a 5-0 success.

Steven Tate, Terry Froud, David Adamson and Rod Turnbull were successful in the singles, while in the pairs, Adamson/Terry Froud cemented the victory.

The match between Lumley and Seaham Conservatives A was expected to be close and the singles alternated into a 2-2 situation before Lumley took the pairs for the overall 3-2 result.

A 25 break helped Graeme Ablett dominate the first frame for Boldon CA away at Steels.

Tom Ayre won a high scoring second frame against Michael Grieveson 72-58 and a 25 break by Ray Charlton Junior moved Steels into the lead.

John Smith levelled the match before Ray Charlton Senior/Vince Flynn won Steels the match.

Norman Brown got Mill View off to a good start away at Murton Officials before Eddie Williamson levelled.

Stephen Clementson clinched the third frame before Jackson Mason beat Stephen Chandler.

John Spruce/Howard Lax pulled one back for Mill View when winning the pairs, beating Eddie Williamson/David Burdess to reduce the defeat to 3-2.

Biddick B welcomed Pennywell Comrades A and started well with Peter Mills winning the first frame before Joe Turner levelled.

Dean Taylor moved Pennywell into the lead before Philip Straughan levelled the match once again.

In the pairs, Peter Mills/Paul Cobb won Biddick the match when they saw off the challenge of Steve O’Wellen/Taylor for the 3-2 win.

Seaham Conservatives B entertained South Hylton B and got off to an excellent start thanks to Harland Davidson, with Colin Dobson winning the second frame.

Bobby Boyce pulled one back for Hylton before Tony Hazard levelled the match in the next frame.

Bobby Carne/Colin Dobson won Seaham the match when they dominated the pairs to defeat Jimmy Catcherside/Boyce for the 3-2 win.

H Teams need to return their entry forms for this season’s competitions to Graham Rutland, no later than Saturday, October 21.
