This week saw the final of the Handicap Singles between Steels’ Open Singles winner Adam Smith and Division Two Singles winner Trevor Walton, of Biddick B.
The first frame started slowly, with both players showing a lot of respect for one another
Trevor potted a good long pink, but a missed black gave Adam a chance, which he potted to win the first frame 54-53.
The second frame saw Trevor get off to a brilliant start with a 32 break.
A good safety by Adam looked to have Trevor in trouble, but an excellent red from tight on the cushion saw Trevor get a 15 break and level the match, winning the second frame 61-17.
Trevor started the third frame strongly and a 15 break soon saw him growing in confidence, but a miss saw Adam hit a 51-break in reply.
A missed red proved costly as Adam scored a 28 break to win the frame 84-18.
Walton hit a good 19 break, but after a missed red, Adam scored eight and played a good safety shot to leave Trevor in trouble.
An unlucky in-off from the escape left Adam a free ball and an easy chance.
A 26 break saw him win the frame 66-25 and claim the handicap singles title 3-1 and become the first player to win the Open Singles, Division One and Handicap Singles title in the same season.
