SUNDERLAND Clarion saw riders Michael Sloanes, Neil Wallbank, Craig Stephenson, Tony Dickinson and Stu Grey focus on the regional road race championship in Barton, North Yorkshire, where they took on eight laps of an 11-mile circuit.
The race saw an early break away featuring some of the regions top names, leaving very few teams interested to chase down those out front.
As the race continued, the pace took its toll on the Clarion riders, which included a badly timed puncture for Wallbank.
Sloanes was the last man standing in the senior race, with Dickinson holding his own in the masters race.
In the end, James Moss took the victory for Velosure (Giordana RT), ahead of Dan Smith (TS Racing Team – Vankru) and Harry Tanfield (KTM road-and-trail.com).
Sloanes finished within the chasing group and claimed a strong 16th place.
In the masters race, Dickinson produced a great performance to finish eighth behind Shaun Tyson (Adept Precision RT/NE Healthcare).
Next up for most of the Clarion racers will be the club’s own road race on June 1, in Middleton, Northumberland, where they will be hoping to make an impression.
