SILKSWORTH claimed all the places on offer in the Durham County District Two triples and fours green finals, writes Richard Mckie.

Paul Baker (Silksworth) defeated Stevie Don (Whitburn) 24-13 in the fours, while Wayne Funnell saw off Richie Mckie (Roker Marine) 19-15 and David Bolt pipped Peter Thomson (Roker Marine) 18-16.

Baker next meets Bolt, while Funnell’s quartet await the winner of the District Three final between Seaham Town’s Jimmy McAdoo and Hetton’s Sam Patterson.

In the triples green finals, Billy Ferry outgunned Silksworth clubmate Bolt 22-11, Baker comfortably beat Rod Campbell (Sunderland) 24-9 and Michael Laydon proved too strong for Peter Thomson (Roker Marine), winning 18-8.

Ferry next tackles J. Hutchinson (Pelton Fell) or D. Livingston (Dunston), Baker faces Usworth’s Brian Poulter and Laydon meets P. Harrison (Elm Tree) or D. Mallaby (West End).

This week, the pairs and singles green finals are being played on Tuesday and Thursday at Barnes Park.

H Hetton Workmen’s Norma Stephenson saw her hopes in the Ladies’ County triples dashed by a 23-10 quarter-final defeat to Pelton Fell. The pairs first rund starts on Monday.

H Dairy Lane’s David Morgan is the only local survivor in the national Champion of Champions singles, following his walkover against David Bolt (Silksworth). He hosts Dunston’s Alan Theobold in the next round.

Silksworth’s 44-33 double fours win over Dunston sets up a trip to Leadgate in the next round. Silksworth, given a walkover by Roker Marine in the top club competition, also face Leadgate, this time at home.

Dairy Lane’s Jimmy McKinney progressed in the senior singles, beating Mainsforth’s Bill Maddison 21-16, while the father and son Baker team crushed Redcar 28-7 in the family pairs.

Dairy Lane’s David Armstrong exited the mixed pairs with a 24-14 defeat at Pelton Fell, but clubmate Jimmty McKinney saw off Leadgate’s Barry Attwood 25-17 in the mixed fours, clinching a home tie against Hartlepool’s Alan Taylor.
