Houghton Cycling Club’s Mal Sellars capped a wonderful season when he was presented with the Most Improved Rider at their annual dinner and prize presentation.

There were 82 members and guests present at the evening, held at Hallgarth Manor.

Other awards were also handed out with Mark Harrison clinching the Club Time Trial Series trophy, the Club Time Trial Best All Rounder Champion award and the Club Hill Climb Champion accoldae.

The Female winner of Club Time Trial Series went to Alison Raine.

Peter Tuckwell took the Vet winner of Time Trial Series award.

Other awards that were won on the night are as follows: Senior Road Race Champion – Chris Ranson, Club Cyclo Cross Champion – David Stevens, Brian Ferry Award for promoting the club – Ian Jobling

Ray Robinson who rode 7633 miles between January and October 2013 to claim the Mile Eater Competition trophy.

Paul Whitehall was crowned the 100 Mile Time Trial Champion.

Round seven of the Super Saturday NECCL series, at Eston, saw David Stevens and Peter Reed riding this event.

On a bright, cold day the course was very muddy and boggy and the eventual winner was James Anderson, of Adept Precision RT, Vet 40+

Other riders included Jon Bayley, of Gosforth RC, Senior rider, who came second and third placed Richard Meadows, of Godleys Cycles, Senior rider.

Houghton’s David Stevens (Senior rider) came in seveth, while Peter Reed (Vet 60+) came 34th.

Houghton riders were out in force again, with Paul Robson, Paul Whitehill, Ian Jobling, Matt Webb, Peter Reed, David Stevens representing the club in the CXNE event, held at Stainton, promoted by Teesdale CRC.

This was another arduous course and the Senior race lasted 60 minutes, with Robert Partridge (Team UK youth) coming first, Stuart Wearmouth (MTS Cycle Sport) came second, with Colin Ash (Cestria Cycles RT) coming in third.

Houghton’s Matt Webb finished 11th whilse David Stevens came in 19th.

The Vets over 50 race winner was Barry Kipling (MTS Cycle Sport).

Andrew Moss (Adept Precision RT) came second and Colin Blacklock finshed third

Houghton’s Paul Robson (14th) and Peter Reed (23rd) finished the race too.

The Vets over 40 race had Morgan Donnelly (Beacon Wheelers) coming in first.

Kenny Johnson (Team Scott UK) finished second and Keith Ashbridge (VC Cumbria) came in third.

Houghton’s Paul Whitehill came in 19th and Ian Jobling came in 31st.
