RILEYS Sunderland clinched the Tyne and Wear Darts Superleague title last Sunday night with a final day 8-1 win over South Shields side The White Horse.
The Wearside team improved on last season’s third place by claiming the championship after a long season, battling against another South Tyneside outfit The Top Club.
Rileys held their nerve in a race while holding on to a two-point lead, ending the season with 11 straight victories including a memorable 5-4 win against The Top Club in May in which the Wearsiders fought back from 4-1 down.
The Sunderland side has long been a fixture in the Superleague, moving from the New Democratic club upon its closure two seasons ago to Riley’s Snooker Club in John Street.
Along the way, a steady stream of players from Seaham have linked up with the surviving Sunderland-based players to form the current championship-winning squad.
Anth Skelton produced a series of great displays in his first season in the league, while Davey Thompson and Kevin Guy were consistent performers throughout.
Rileys ended the season with 21 wins, six defeats and 159 legs for with just 83 legs against.
