Record-breaking Burford puts on a masterclass

In Group One of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker Summer League, an outstanding total clearance and a new league highest break of 140 by Phil Burford left spectators amazed and got South Hylton B off to a dream start against Pennywell Comrades A winning the first frame 140-30.

Graham Rutland came from behind to pinch the second frame against Dean Taylor, and a 33 break helped Adam Smith win the third.

In the pairs, Adam Smith and Phil Burford beat Stuart Taylor and Steve O’Wellen for the clean sweep.

After last week’s bad result, Farringdon had an excellent 3-1 win at home to Seaham Conservatives to remain in second place.

The Victory toasted a 3-1 victory over Lumley A.

In Group Two, South Hylton A remain two points clear after a 2-2 draw away at Biddick B.

With South Hylton dropping points, Steels missed an opportunity to close the gap when they were held to a 2-2 draw by Cheemas B.

Lumley B welcomed Murton Colliery and got off to a flying start with Brian Meuse coming from 48 points behind to win the first frame 78-61 against Eddie Williamson.

Stephen Clementson levelled before Alec Hannan came back from 40 points behind to pinch the third frame and move Lumley into the lead. In the pairs, Gary Stockton and Eddie Williamson potted well to beat Sean Henderson and Andrew Drinkwater for the 2-2 draw.

In Group Three, Green Baize moved six points clear after a 3-1 win away at Cheemas A.

In a battle for second place, Biddick A travelled to Mill View B and got off to a bad start as Adrian Daniels came from behind to beat Terry Froud.

David Adamson levelled before Graham Smith moved Biddick back into the lead.

John Spruce, when paired with Sid Bate, won the pairs frame to grab a 2-2 draw.

Pennywell Comrades B played out a 2-2 draw when they entertained The Railway.
