Rampant Whitburn continue to dominate summer league

In Group One of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker Summer League, Whitburn increased their lead at the top of group to six points after a 4-0 win at Murton Officials.

Joseph Cromby won the first frame against Robin Midson (66-28) before John Smith won the second frame.

Graeme Ablett beat Bobby Carne 64-53 in the third, before a 39-break by John Smith, when paired with Tony Hazard, helped win the pairs 78-23 and complete the whitewash.

Steels travelled to The Victory and started well with Lee Norton winning the first frame and Jimmy Gales winning the second.

In the third frame, Darren Dowell and Ray Charlton Jnr had a tussle, with Charlton winning 47-43.

In the pairs, Gerry Porter/Andy Newby beat Tom Ayre/Ray Charlton Snr 54-38 to reduce the defeat to 3-1.

Pennywell Comrades welcomed Lumley A and got off to a good start with Dean Taylor winning the first frame and Steven Smith clinched the second.

Stephen Rushworth pulled one back for Lumley before Stuart Taylor/Ian McDermott beat Paul Nord/Stephen Rushworth 71-14 for the 3-1 win.

In Group Two, Graham Rutland got South Hylton off to a good start away at Murton Colliery before Eddie Williamson levelled the match.

Adam Smith moved Hylton back into the lead before getting a 45-break in the pairs, when teamed with Bobby Boyce, to help win the frame 73-47 and make the final score 3-1 Hylton.

Biddick travelled to Seaham Conservatives and got off to an excellent start with Steven Tate winning the first frame and Terry Froud increased the lead in the next frame.

Michael Monaghan started a comeback for Seaham winning the third frame against Rod Turnbull 69-46, and Ian Hughes/Gordon Elliott forced a 2-2 draw when they beat David Adamson/Rod Turnbull in a close pairs 64-61.

Sadly, the match between Lumley B and Farringdon was postponed due to a shortage of Lumley players.

H Could members please be aware that the next monthly meeting is the AGM meeting and is next Monday at The Railway Club, 7.30pm.

Any outstanding entry money for the Summer League must to be paid and all teams wanting to enter the Winter League must attend the meeting and return the entry forms that were sent out.
