HETTON’S Martin Ball suffered a 5-3 defeat to Teessider Mike Dunn in his first match in the Lumley Snooker Club Premier League.
Ball, who plays out of Lumley, fell behind with a 69-53 defeat in the opener, despite an early break of 53, but he levelled at 1-1 with a narrow 65-61 success, finishing off the colours after Dunn took control with a 44 break.
Dunn responded in style to take the next three frames 61-10, 72-30 (when Ball had six consecutive misses) and 59-49, when Ball missed the deciding black in a fine break of 40.
Ball won the next frame 75-26, inspired by a brilliant 69 break, but saw his hopes of an overall draw killed off when Dunn took the seventh 71-31 for a 5-2 lead, with crucial breaks of 32 and 26.
A superb 96 break in the final frame (100-34) cut the deficit, but Dunn emerged the winner.
