Darren McVitie and Andrew Wilkinson were on good form for Thompson, each taking their three singles and teaming up for success in the doubles. Chris Blake added a further win for the visitors in an 8-2 win, but Keith Weatherby and Jimmy Scope defeated him to provide some resistance for St Chad’s.

Redby CA A have opened up a six-point lead at the top of Division Two after defeating bottom side St Gabriel’s C 7-3 and fellow title contenders Durham CA 8-2.

The Durham wins came courtesy of Gavin Bestford, 3-0 against Deneven, and Stuart Anderson, who beat Tweedy 3-2.

West CA B and St Aidan’s A contested a very competitive 5-5 draw.

David Snowdon took his usual three wins for West and Alan Whitwham added two. He was undone by Linda Spensley, going down 3-0. Spensley added a further win against Michael Redfearn and team-mates David Barber and David Thomson matched this feat against the West number three. The doubles went to St Aidan’s and ensured they came away unbeaten.

In a bumper week in Division Three, St John C were the big success story as they recorded two wins, a 7-3 victory against promotion challengers St Aidan’s B and a 6-4 win against Sacriston St Bede’s C.

Gary Anderson added two more for St John but couldn’t defeat Ian McAllister, missing out 3-1. St John secured their win with victory in the doubles for Smith and Tony Watson.

McAllister was the best of the Sacriston players with two wins and Terry Charlton and Peter Whitfield earned their side a point.

Leaders Sacriston St Bede’s B continued their fine season with a 6-4 win against Redby CA B.

Mark Walton was made to work extremely hard but came out on top in all of his matches for Sacriston. Nigel Coe took two of his singles but missed out against Howard Forster.
