Match Play Championship drama heads to Wearside

WEARSIDE will stage the prestigious Durham County Match Play Championship this year.

The first and second rounds will be held at the Coxgreen course on Saturday, July 18, with the third and fourth rounds the following day.

The top four players will return to Wearside for the semi-finals and final on Saturday, July 25.

The strokeplay County Championship will be played at South Shields, with four rounds over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17.

The qualfying event will be at Castle Eden on May 2.

The early-season Inter-Counties Foursomes will be held at three local courses.

The first and second rounds are at Houghton on April 11, the third and fourth rounds follow at Seaham the next day and the final is scheduled for Boldon on April 18.

Durham County’s fixtures in the daily Telegraph Northern Counties Championship have been confirmed.

The campaign opens with a derby against Northumberland at Blyth on May 9, continuing with Lancashire’s visit to Bishop Auckland on June 13 and a trip to Ulverston to tackle Cumbria on July 11.

Durham are away to Cheshire at Heswall on August 15 before ending the season with a clash against Yorkshire at Durham City on August 29.

Prior to the season, the County team have a friendly against the Durham County Junior Golfing Society (venue still to be confirmed) on March 29 and the Teesside Union at Billingham on April 19.
