Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League Division One newcomers Lumley got off to a fantastic start when they defeated last year’s champions Green Baize 3-2.
Baize travelled to last season’s Division Two champions Lumley B and got off to a bad start with Brian Meuse beating Dean Wilson.
Peter Dambrosie levelled before Sean Henderson moved Lumley back into the lead.
Alec Hannan increased the lead beating before a 52-break by Dean Wilson, when paired with Craig Kane, helped Green Baize win the pairs, but it was too little, too late for Baize.
Washington Snooker A started the season strongly with an excellent 5-0 win at home to Biddick A.
Washington Snooker B lost 4-1 when they travelled to South Hylton, courtesy of Kevin Harrop, Adam Smith, Graham Rutland, Phil Burford and Bobby Boyce.
Glendale edged out Whitburn 3-2 in a closely fought game.
Biddick B got off to an excellent start winning the first three single frames at home to Steels.
Michael Simpson, Peter Mills and Craig Bell put Biddick on the way to victory.
Ray Charlton Snr pulled one back for Steels, and in the pairs, George Norton and George Allan clinched the frame for Steels.
In division two, Mill View A got off to a flyer when beating Murton Officials 5-0.
Keith Johnston, John Burnell, Kevin Alderson, Adam Burnell, Dan Alderson and Peter Davies completed the clean sweep.
Murton Colliery cruised to a 4-1 win over The Victory, with Gary Stockton, Stephen Cook, Eddie Williamson and Stephen Cook starring.
Seaham Conservatives and Lumley A were involved in an entertaining game with Seaham coming out the 3-2 winners.
Railway claimed a narrow 3-2 victory over Cheemas.
The match between Mill View B and Pennywell Comrades was expected to be close and the singles alternated into a 2-2 situation before Pennywell took the pairs for the overall 3-2 result.
