IT has been a good week for both Sunderland squads in the senior’s Inter Club league.

In group two, the Sunderland B team enjoyed a 56-44 (4-1) win over Park View at Houghton.

Richie Jobling’s quartet of Peter Bulmer, Peter Thomson (snr) and Billy Roberts hit a late purple patch and scored 14 shots without reply to secure a 22-7 win over R.Edgell.

George Brown, Ebby Dent, Alfie Ferguson and Terry Todd eased to a 17-12 win over C.Thompson while the remaining rink of Tony Grimes, Billy Conway, Frankie Froud and Peter Brickle lost a high-scoring affair 25-17 against C.Chapman.

The win lifts the B team off the bottom of the group albeit on shot difference with only one game to play.

The final game against Stanley has been rearranged to Wednesday, March 5.

Latest Group standings: Darlington B 7-25, Hartlepool A 6-18, Stanley 7-15, Sunderland B 7-13½, Park View 7-13½.

The current play-off holders Sunderland A secured a quarter-final play-off place after defeating Gateshead 55-25 (5-0) at Houghton. Arthur Baker, debutee Barney Walsh, Joe Flett and Tommy Jopling eased to a 23-6 win over R.Charlton.

Ted Forster, Hendy Shields, Fred Knubley and Billy Ferry collected consecutive counts of six on the way to an 18-11 win over J.Atkinson while the remaining rink of Pat Collins, Ronnie Robson, Ray Robinson and John Jones ground out a 13-8 win over H.Armstrong.

The win not only secures a play-off place but also ensures the holders will play the quarter-final tie at Houghton.

H In the latest round of Inter County fixtures, the Sunderland squad secured their first win of the season by defeating Gateshead 104-96 (9-3).

At Gateshead, Tommy Jopling navigated George Brown, Keith Hopper and Joe Flett to a 19-10 win over R.Charlton.

Pat Collins, Billy Hearne, Alfie Ferguson and Ray Robinson defeated M.Laydon 18-13 while the third rink of Neal Ridley, Michael Wright, Phillip Dixon and Gary Farquhar went down 20-13 to M.Pett.

Those scores saw the away squad secure four points.

At Houghton, where victories have been thin on the ground, John Jones skipped his rink of Tony Grimes, Peter Thomson (snr) and Terry Todd to an impressive 28-15 win over W.Watson.

Peter Bulmer, Michael Carr, Hendy Shields and Stevie Angus dropped a last end four to finish 18-14 down against R.Smith while Billy Roberts, Richie Jobling, Frankie Froud and Billy Ferry went down 20-12 to G.Hackett.

Those results meant the home squad collected three points. The win lifts Sunderland off the bottom but they have another vital game against bottom-of-the-table Great Aycliffe on February 23.
