Jaguar award for Sunderland swimmer Jonny Carlisle

CITY of Sunderland swimmer Jonny Carlisle has been awarded a £2,000 bursary from the Jaguar Academy of Sport.

The 18-year-old Wearsider, who is ranked the number three U18 swimmer at both the 100m and 200m backstroke, is aiming to win a place on the British Swimming World Class Programme, with the hope of competing in future major championships.

The Jaguar Academy, launched last year, recognises the best of British sporting talent and aims to help young potential be fulfilled.

Jonny received his award at a ceremony at the Leander Club, Henley-on-Thames, attended by Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave.
