Imran Aziz led the way as George Washington finished second in Saturday’s Durham County Clubs Championship qualifier.

County player Aziz carded a one-under-par round of 70 at Garesfield, helping Washington post a three-round total of 222, level with Ravensworth, who were winners on countback.

Aaron Scott (74) and John Scott (78) supported Aziz, with the championship proper at Dinsdale Spa on August 1 next in their sights.

Former County champion Howard Walton’s fine round of 73 helped Wearside qualify for the 12-team final in 11th place, backed by Daniel Hair (79) and Dean Taylor (80).

Ramside finished 12th on 234, thanks to Robert Lister (74), A. Stewart (77) and Stephen Foster (81).

Gavin Nesbit (74), Carl Thompson (77) and Andrew McCarrick (86) could only help Boldon finish 15th on 237, with Whitburn 21st as Josh Hussain hit 79, backed by Daniel Coffey (82) and Chris Hart (84).

Greg Southwick posted a level-par 72 for Houghton, while Kevin Booth fired 75 in vain for Seaham.

The 12 qualifiers are: Ravensworth, Washington, Wynyard, Dinsdale Spa, Heworth, Hobson, Crook, South Moor, Ryton, Seaton Carew, Wearside and Ramside.
