Golf: Durham County to open 2017 programme with friendly match at Seaham Golf Club

Seaham Golf Club will stage the Durham County team’s first warm-up fixture in 2017.

Durham will take on the Durham County Junior Golfing Society in their annual friendly at Seaham on Sunday, April 2, as preparations begin for the Northern Counties League season.

Durham also meet the Teesside Union at Eaglescliffe on April 23, with the first league match coming against Cumbria at Seascale on May 13.

Durham. who finished the league in fourth place this year, then tackle Cheshire at Wilmslow on June 10, before hosting defending champions Yorkshire at South Shields on July 8.

They head to Westerhope to meet Northumberland on August 12 before finishing off against Lancashire at Dinsdale Spa on September 2.

Meanwhile, the Durham County Championship will be staged over three days from Friday, May 19 to the Sunday at Wynyard.

The Durham Match Play Championship is scheduled for July 15-16 at South Moor, with the semi-finals and final at the same venue the following Saturday, July 22.

Houghton will host the the County Seniors Championship, with the first round on Wednesday, July 19 and the second round, following a cut, the next day.

The Clubs Championship qualifier is at Brancepeth Castle on July 1, with the title up for grabs at Ramside Hall on August 5.
