Golf: Durham champions Heworth pipped in Inter-County Foursomes final

The Northumberland Club won the Northumberland and Durham Inter-County Foursomes final.

The High Gosforth Park-based club edged a 2&1 victory over Durham champions Heworth in the final at Westerhope.

Heworth had beaten Tyneside by two holes in the Durham final, after previously seeing off Chester-le-Street 3&1 and Durham City 3&2 at Whitburn, then beating South Shields 3&2 and Castle Eden 2&1 at Seaham.

Boldon exited in the third round, losing 2&1 to Castle Eden, while Wearside, 2&1 first round winners against Eaglescliffe, were beaten at the 22nd hole by Boldon after an epic scrap in round two.

Houghton lost 4&2 to South Shields in their first round tie, while Seaham succumbed 2&1 to Durham City and Ramside went down by the same score to Consett. Whitburn were pipped by one hole in their opener against Castle Eden.

The Durham County Golf Union Members’ Spring Pairs competition, called off earlier this month, has been rescheduled for May 23, still at Boldon.
