Durham endured a thumping 12-6 defeat away to Cumbria in their opening Northern Counties League match of the summer.
The visitors never recovered from a 5-1 deficit sustained in the morning foursomes at Seascale.
The only Durham success came courtesy of Boldon’s Gavin Nesbit and James Wilson (Tyneside), who edged home 2&1.
Wearside’s Andrew McCarrick teamed up with Jack Ainscough (Hartlepool) for a 3&2 defeat, while Castle Eden pair Ryan Dixon and Cameron Wallace were only beaten by one hole.
Castle Eden’s Stuart Brown and Consett’s John Kennedy lost by two holes.
In the singles, Cumbria extended their lead by taking two and a half points in the top three matches, with Kris Rae (Tyneside) securing a half for Durham.
Eaglescliffe’s Tom Smith (3&1) and Sam Donald (one hole) both secured victories, as did Dixon (2&1) and Brown (3&2), with Wallace forcing a half.
But Cumbria won the final three matches to run out convincing winners. McCarrick was beaten 4&2 despite a brave show.
Durham are next in action at Wilmslow Golf Club on Saturday, June 10, when they meet Cheshire, who lost their opener 10½-7½ to Yorkshire.
Northumberland lead the way after a 12½-5½ victory away to Lancashire.
