Golden Elle’s in seventh heaven

ELLE Brown took the honours for the home club at the Chester-le-Street Junior Gala, bagging a magnificent seven gold medals.

She also claimed three silvers and a bronze medal in the 11-year age group.

Elle demonstrated her versatility by striking gold in the 200 and 400m freestyle, 200m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 50 and 200m butterfly and the 200m individual medley.

Her silver medal performances came in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 100m individual medley, with her bronze medal coming in the 200m breaststroke.

Elizabeth Clements (12) also claimed an impressive seven gold medals with victories in the 50, 200 and 400m freestyle, 50 and 200m backstroke, 100 and 200m individual medley, together with a 50m breaststroke silver and a 50m butterfly bronze.

Taryn Wheat (11) topped the podium in the 50m freestyle and the 100m individual medley and won silver medals in the 200 and 400m freestyle, 50m breaststroke and 200m individual medley, with third spot finishes in the 50 and 200m backstroke and 50m butterfly events.

Leading the way for the Chester-le-Street boys was 12-year-old Oliver Wallace with a gold medal performance in the 200m individual medley, a hat trick of silver medals in the 200m breaststroke, 50 and 200m freestyle and a 200m backstroke bronze medal.

James Davison (11) also chipped in by taking the 200m individual medley gold, the 50m breaststroke silver and an impressive seven bronze medals from the 50, 200 and 400m freestyle, 50 and 200m backstroke, 200m breaststroke and 100m individual medley events.

Other individual medallists were Rina Sebastiao-Yatsuzu (11) with silver medals in the 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly, Isobel Oliver (9) 50m breaststroke silver and 200m breaststroke bronze, Joseph Fairburn (9) and Lee Hitchman (11) both with 50m backstroke silver medals, Andrew Kirk (9) 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley bronze medals and Faye Burns (12) bronze medallist in the 200m breaststroke.

In the 200m freestyle relay, Chester-le-Street’s 11/12 years boys (Oliver Wallace, James Davison, Lee Hitchman and Alex Mason) and 11/12 years girls (Elizabeth Clements, Elle Brown, Taryn Wheat and Faye Burns), won silver medals; while the 9/10 boys (Joseph Fairburn, Sam Brunton, Andrew Kirk and Ben Ward) and the 9/10 girls (Ella Hall, Layla Cain, Isobel Oliver and Emily Dolman) secured bronze medals.

Isla Smith, Grace Brown, Benjamin Glanville (9), Paige Brown (10), Shauna Forster, Georgia Williams, Kiera Curry and Bradley Martin (11) also competed for Chester-le-Street.

In the earlier long distance events, 12-year-old Oliver Wallace took second place in the gruelling 1500m with an impressive time of 18.45.58, while the girls competing at the 800m distance won medals of all colours.

Gold medals were claimed by Elle Brown (11) in 10.16.32 and Elizabeth Clements (12) 10.02.77, silver medals by Taryn Wheat (11) 10.38.42 and Lauren Graham (13) 9.28.41, with bronze medal performances coming from Georgina Lee (13) 9.52.62 and Lauren Patterson (14) in 9.42.54. Faye Burns (12), Rebecca Cooper (13), and 14-year-olds Alexandra Clements, Olivia Nelson and Grace Routledge also completed for Chester-le-Street.
