Durham County stroll to convincing victory

DURHAM County A team enjoyed a comfortable 41-shot victory over Lincolnshire In their opening Middleton Cup fixture, with five of the six rinks recording victories.

Durham collected all 20 points on offer at neutral Kirkbymoorside to top the early table, while Northumberland defeated Lancashire 19-2.

The next round of games could be the group decider as Durham head to Alnwick to face Northumberland.

H In the Northern Counties Alsop Cup, the County B team began their title defence with an impressive 67-shot win over Northumberland at Houghton Dairy Lane.

A few enforced changes saw Dairy Lane’s Jimmy Swinney and Dan Todner drafted in from the bankside as the team was short and only one of the five reserves turned up.

The disruption did not affect the performance, though, as Durham won on all six rinks collecting all 22 points. Durham entertain Yorkshire at Stockton this weekend.

H Durham Ladies’ A team made a good start to their John’s Trophy campaign with a 34-shot success against Derbyshire at Copmanthorpe, with five rinks wins out of six.

Houghton’s Joan Rodgerson steered her rink to an impressive 26-11 victory.

Notts defeated Yorkshire 20-2, with the Tykes next up for Durham, at York Railway, on June 21.
