NEWCASTLE Vipers player-coach Danny Stewart is backing his players to rise to the challenge of this week’s double header.

Vipers’ push for the Elite League’s eighth and final play-off spot continues with tonight’s home clash with title-chasing Cardiff Devils at Whitley Bay (7pm), and they will be confident of upsetting Hull Stingrays away tomorrow (6pm).

Stewart, who includes four Northern Stars players – Daniel Pye, Callum Davies, Andy Finn and Matt Sellars – said: “We have to have the right mindset going into games. Yes, we’re playing short handed, but we’re getting on with it. In reality it doesn’t matter who we play at home, it’s important we have the right mentality.

“If we keep teams to the outside we know we’ve got a goalie who will stop pucks. We limit their chances, limit our mistakes and capitalise when we get our chances. We know it’s going to be tough, but the guys are up for the challenge.”

Admission is £12.50 (adults), £9.50 (concessions) and £5.50 (under-16s).
