Cherry Seaborn then pounced a minute from time to secure victory for the students with her seventh goal of a productive season.

Sophie Hawkins’ side have a week off before returning to action at home to Liverpool Sefton on Saturday week.

The students’ third team picked up two wins, 7-1 against Whitley Bay and Tynemouth and 2-1 at home to Newcastle University seconds, to climb into second place in the North League’s Division Two North East.

Sunderland Broom had their home clash with Newcastle firsts postponed last week, but Steph Edmundson’s side head to pointless Morpeth seconds on Saturday (1.30pm).
