Bowls mourns legend Trudy Broxson

The Sunderland bowls scene is in mourning following the death of Trudy Broxson.

During the 1980s, Broxson was thought by many a peer to be the best lead in Sunderland and was up there with the best within the ladies county scene.

Outdoors she won three county singles titles (84,87,94), pairs (96,98), triples (83), fours (80) and the town singles in (92,98).

At Crowtree in the indoor game, Trudy had a record second to none – club singles (1980, 83,84,91,97,99,2000,01), club pairs (1979,84,89,92,95,2003), club triples (1979,80,82,83,90,93,95,2000,03,05), club fours (1979,83,84,85,88,93,95, 96,97,99,2000,04), club two bowl (1984,85,93,94), club Mixed pairs (1995), county triples (89), county pairs (92,95), county triples (95), county singles (97).

In 1984, she was also part of the national title-winning Sunderland Yetton Trophy team and represented the county at both indoors and outdoors.
