Redby CA A are the new leaders in Division Two of the Sunderland and District League following a fine 8-2 win over their B team.

Frank Booth won his three singles before teaming up with Malcolm Deneven (2) to claim the doubles set, their fifth doubles win in six outings.

Amanda Paxton, back rom injury, won two of her three singles sets, including good victories over Howard Foster and Alan Girdwood, but found Redby B’s Joe Muldowney too strong.

Booth and Deneven are showing the form required to help deliver a successful return to the top flight.

With team-mate Ken Tweedy chipping in, together with the timely return of Paxton, Redby will almost certainly be in the mix as the season unfolds.

Joe Muldowney (Redby CA B) continues to impress, with an 83 per cent win rate prior to Redby’s 6-4 defeat to Silksworth IM, who climbed into joint third position as a result.

Silksworth’s Howard Brown finished undefeated, edging an epic battle against Muldowney (13-11 in the fifth end).
