Ben’s four-medal haul inspires Sunderland swimmers

Ben Hutchinson led the way for City of Sunderland ASC in the Derwentside Christmas Cracker Meet at Stanley’s Louisa Centre.

The 10-year-old secured a superb double gold and silver medal haul.

Hutchinson touched home in a time of 33.96 seconds to take the 50m freestyle gold and followed this up with a 38.90 finish to win the 50m butterfly. He then went on to take silver medals in the 200m freestyle and butterfly events.

Team-mate Joseph Pomfret (11) topped the podium in the 50m and 100m butterfly with respective times of 34.43 and 1min 19.61sec, as well as taking silver in the 50m freestyle.

James Brewerton also struck gold twice, the 12-year-old taking the 100m backstroke in 1.15.31 and the 200m in 2.22.03.

Jodi Bunker was victorious in the 12-year-old 200m butterfly (2.35.73) and individual medley (2.35.92) and she also grabbed two silver medals in the 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, plus a bronze in the 200m backstroke.
