Ashett makes lightning start on his Knack Darts League debut

NEWCOMER Jimmy Ashett made a fantastic start to his season with a 5-1 debut win over Alan Smith.

Jimmy, pictured, threw legs in 13, 20, 21 and 22 darts, along with a 116 checkout, while Alan replied with a 21-darter.

Last year’s runner-up David Thompson also started off with a cracking 5-1 win, this time over Anth Gale. Dave’s highlights included 13, 20 and 21-darters, plus a 116 checkout.

Spiller Henderson was also in great form, starting off with a 5-2 win over Ryhope’s John Redpath. Henderson took legs in 16, 18 and 20 darts, plus a 180 and 100 checkout.

Neil Richardson managed the same winning score over Ray Malarkey, hitting legs in 20 and 21 darts, though Malarkey hit a 180 in return.

Phil Dunn kept up the pattern of 5-2 wins, his over Martin Price.

And Paul Gilibrand carried on the 5-2 triumphs with victory over Stephen Skinner, Gilibrand taking out legs in 18 and 20 darts, Skinner replying with 18 and 19-darters, plus a checkout of 134.

Last year’s winner Graham Mullen carried on where he left off, beating Eddie Ashman 5-3.

Mullen’s highlights were legs in 15, 16, 18 and 19 darts, plus a 135 checkout. Ashman was also in form, hitting two 180s and taking legs out in 18, 21 and 22 darts, capped by a 120 checkout.

Another newcomer, Paul Williams, shared a 4-4 draw with Kevin Guy, Williams hitting a 180 and 18, 19 and 20-darters, Guy replying with legs of 16, 19 and 20 darts.

Another draw was between Anth Skelton and newcomer Mark Robinson, with Skelton hitting a 180 and a 19-dart leg.
