Wearside League: Super Storey keeps Silksworth flying high with hat-trick against Wolviston

Adam Storey scored a brilliant hat-trick to inspire Andrew Stobbart’s Wearsiders to a 10th league win of the season.

Further goals from Kieran Mitchell and Carl Burns were easily enough for the home side to claim all three points.

Jarrow maintained their impressive seven-point lead at the top with a thrilling 3-2 home win over Cleator Moor Celtic.

Jarrow scored first, after six minutes, when Jonathan Hurst fired in from 15 yards. Two minutes later, the Cumbrians’ Ryan Hall equalised from close range, beating keeper Gary Slater.

On the half hour, Peter Kane restored Jarrow’s lead, but Celtic came back again midway through the second half when Luke Close equalised for a second time.

But Jarrow’s winner came eight minutes from time when Hurst scored again, firing past keeper Johnston from 10 yards.

Boldon CA beat Coxhoe Athletic by a single goal, with Adam Bell side-footing the ball past visiting goalkeeper David Atkinson in the 35th minute.

South Shields Reserves had a narrow 2-1 home win over Darlington 1883 Reserves.

On just 12 minutes, Shields opened the scoring when a cross from the left found Reece Marsden unmarked in the box and he turned and shot past keeper Connor Pearce.

Seven minutes later, Ryan Bolam curled home a 25-yard free-kick into the top corner, giving Pearce no chance.

The visitors pulled one back on 26 minutes when a Kurt Matthews shot took a deflection and left keeper Curtis Richardson stranded, but they could not force an equaliser.

Redcar Athletic kept up the pressure on leaders Jarrow with a 6-0 rout against Hartlepool.

Goals from James Swann, Andy Jennings (2) and a Sam Webster hat-trick did the damage.

l Gateshead exited the FA Cup with a 3-2 defeat to visitors Alfreton Town in last night’s fourth qualifying round replay.

The Derbyshire side now host League Two outfit Newport County in the first round proper next month.

Craig Westcarr gave Alfreton an early lead, but Gateshead levelled when ex-Hartlepool United star Andy Monkhouse could only turn a Dan Jones cross into his own net.

Mitch Brundle’s tremendous free-kick, into the top corner, then had Heed on top, but Sam Smith levelled and Alfreton won it in extra time, Westcarr scoring from the spot after Sam Jones was guilty of handball in the box.
