Wearside League: Kris bliss as Jarrow march on up the table in style

Prudhoe Town managed to stage the only league game, against Jarrow, but despite taking an early lead, they went down 5-2.

Sam Mannion drove past Jarrow goalkeeper Lee Burrell with only 10 minutes gone as Prudhoe made a good start, and, leading up the interval, the home side sensed they were in with a chance of taking something from the match.

But, just before the break, Andrew Wilkinson restored parity and, in the second period, Jarrow were dominant.

Kris Allen hit a hat-trick and, just before the end, the visitors went nap courtesy of Stephen Graham.

Derek Waters converted a late penalty for Prudhoe, but it was no more than a second consolation goal and his side remain fifth-from-bottom.

The win took mid-table Jarrow up two places.

Hartlepool thumped Wolviston 7-1 in their Wearside League Cup preliminary round tie and will now visit Silksworth CW in the first round this coming Saturday.

Their place was just about sealed by the 17th minute by which time they led Wolviston with three goals from Sam Cook, Alex Marshall and Terry Wilkinson.

Although Ryan Hebb threw the visitors a lifeline with his 25th-minute strike, the visitors were undone by a former player.

Andy Blackburn moved to Pool in January and has clearly found his scoring form with his new club – much to the consternation of his former side.

Blackburn rifled all four second-half goals, in the space of 24 minutes, as Pool finally recaptured the exciting form they displayed before Christmas.

Sunderland West End’s first round derby against Ashbrooke Belford House at Ford Quarry was an early victim of the weather. They will try again this weekend.

Spennymoor Town Reserves were saved a journey to Richmond Town for their second round tie, while Stockton Town and Boldon CA will have to rearrange their Shipowners’ Cup semi-final.
