Seaham Red Star Reserves also suffered a heavy defeat, 4-1 at home to fifth-top Hartlepool, who romped into a three-goal lead courtesy of Alex Marshall (pen), Joe Osbourne and John Stephenson.

Although Matthew Nixon threw Seaham a lifeline with the best goal of the five, a tremendous shot into the top corner of the net from 35 yards, his strike was no more than temporary respite and Sam Cook netted Pool’s fourth in the last minute.

There were two shock results. Wolviston, with only three wins from their first 25 games, strolled past Boldon CA for a 4-1 victory.

Junior Masanoi (2), Nathan Bayes and Ryan Brown did the damage, with Jack Lawton (penalty) replying.

Annfield Plain defeated Harton and Westoe 3-0, courtesy of Jamie Henderson, Lee Dempsey and Aaron Wilkinson (pen). Harton had Donwegaj Augustine sent off late on.
