Arsenal and Chelsea are locked in a transfer window battle for Crewe’s young striker Nick Powell.
Both of the London giants saw the 6ft 1in 17-year-old put in a sensational performance against Bristol Rovers at the weekend, scoring two goals.
Crewe manage Steve Davis was full of praise for Powell when he spoke to BBC Sport.
He said: “Every time we went forward, I felt we looked a threat and all credit to the lads because their movement was terrific.
“They (AJ Leitch-Smith and Nick Powell) always looked capable of scoring. He was terrific, so hopefully we can build on that.”
Powell is already a regular in the England youth set-up, and is touted as one of the brightest attacking prospects in the country at the moment.
The Gunners and the Blues both see the youngster as a future star, but there are rumours that he is already being courted by several other Premier League clubs as an immediate first team starter this season.
There were nearly a dozen top flight scouts observing Powell at the weekend, but Arsenal and Chelsea are believed to be the frontrunners in the race for his signature.
