ARSENAL could have Real Madrid for competition next summer in the race to sign Lille forward Eden Hazard.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger failed in a swoop for the teenager last month and now Real director of football Zinedine Zidane is reported in the Daily Mirror to have Belgian Hazard at the top of his hit-list at the Bernabeu.

Midfielder Luka Modric will sign a new £100,000-a-week contract with Tottenham, says Metro.

Chelsea and Manchester United remain keen on the midfielder.

Liverpool and Stoke are being linked by the Daily Mirror with a move for Leicester’s German striker Jeffrey Schlupp.

But the Foxes will try to tie down the 18-year-old on a long-term deal with boss Sven Goran Eriksson admitting: “There is no doubt that Jeffrey has a great future ahead of him. He is a fantastic talent and he is just getting better and better.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has done little to ease Gunners fans’ fears that skipper Robin Van Persie could be the next big-name departure to leave the Emirates.

Reports suggest the Dutchman is stalling over signing a new contract and Wenger said: “‘We are clear with our intention (to keep him) but after that you have to respect for the player.”

German Bundesliga side Hamburg are keeping tabs on Stoke defender Robert Huth, says Inside Futbol.

Meanwhile, free agent James Beattie says he would “love” a second spell with former club Southampton, although he is in talks with Sheffield United.

Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt could emerge as a January target for Inter Milan.
