Sunderland Sunday League: Red-hot Ryhope Top House triumph in 11-goal County Cup classic

Ryhope Top House edged home 6-5 in a goal-crazy Durham County Sunday Cup first round tie against Houghton Town.

Man of the match Josh Winthrop started the scoring, then Ryan Wood made it 2-0, but Town rallied strongly to 4-2 up.

Paul Brooke’s second-half brave levelled things, then further goals from Carl Young and Craig Whelam ensured a memorable victory.

SR Dons were rampant against Premier rivals Myers as they fired seven goals past player-manager Jamie Owens.

Star man David Hall and Liam Young both bagged hat-tricks before Craig Richardson netted for Myers. Leigh Guthrie then hit Dons’ seventh. David Sanderson was Myers’ top man.

Hendon sailed through with a 5-2 win at Hartlepool Pot House. Clayton Davis and Martin Thompson both hit doubles and Mick Gilby came off the bench to nod home a fifth. Paul Taylor starred.

RCA Grangetown Florists put their poor league campaign behind them to secure a convincing 3-0 win over Whickham Coachman. James Witheat, Reece Noble and a John Turney cracker saw them through, with Mark Dickinson starring.

Hylton Castle TWR are flying the flag for the league again after a fine 5-2 win over Jarrow Civic.

Lee Cresswell, Gav Dorwood, Tom Callaghan, Cal Hodgson and Chris McGowan all struck, with Gareth Greener their top performer.

Farringdon ISL were knocked out by impressive Burnside WMC. Star man Jake Fenton and a late Paul Kane equaliser at 2-2 took the tie to penalties, despite the dismissal of Adam Jurgens, but Farra went out 6-5.

Neal Atkinson’s brace wasn’t enough for The Ashbrooke to get anything against Newton Aycliffe Locomotion.

Peter Greenwell missed a few chances, but Locomotion were too strong and finished comfortable 5-2 winners. Leighton Cooney shone for Ashbrooke.

Silksworth Paragon put up a good fight against Wrekenton Blue Star, but they never had enough to get anything from the game. Jordan Murray hit Paragon’s goal in a 3-1 defeat, with Andy Middleton their star man.

TS Potters fell short against a very good Ferryhill Celtic side, who just did enough to win 1-0. Andy Gartland shone in vain for Potters.

Davey Snowdon hit Oddies’ solitary goal as Consett Cricketers Ex-Juniors were just too good on the day, ending the visitors’ run with a 3-1 victory. Andrew Smith was Oddies’ star man.

Jarrow Robin Hood ran out easy 4-0 winners against unbeaten The Stella, whose top performer was Ross Topping.

In the league, Aidan Raeburn inspired the Royal Marine to a welcome first victory in Division One.

His excellent hat-trick set up a 4-1 win at Redhouse Last Orders, with Michael “the straw” Berry adding the fourth. Neil McNulty hit Redhouse’s consolation.

Victoria Gardens are seven points clear after hammering TC Plastics 5-1 away.

They couldn’t cope with the Hope as Martin fired another hat-trick to take his season’s tally to 23, while David “Busta” Paul grabbed a double, with his second strike already touted for goal of the season.

The game was dead and buried when Josh Farquhar fired past Lee Collins for the home reply.

The Lansdowne moved into second place with an easy 9-2 win at Thorney Close Inn.

Kevin Sloane scored for Thorney but was soon sent to the stands for a poor tackle and Lansdowne duly went goal crazy.

Shaun Smith, Lee Chapman, Lewis Lynch, Kristian Tyson, Adam Frame, Thomas Alderson, Jake McDermott and two-goal Rhys Jukes routed Thorney, who responded through Aaron Forrest in the dying seconds.

The Ashbrooke Sports Club showed Board Inn no mercy in a one-sided 7-1 win.

Michael Brown fired a hat-trick, followed by John Hope-Hindmarsh’s double. Jordan Dagg gave Board Inn a glimmer of hope with a well-taken goal, but sub Lewis Collinson finished them off with a brace.

Paul Webster hit his usual goal for Potters, with Jason Alexander replying. Warren Cassap was Potters’ star man, with Corey Steels a constant threat for the visitors.

Dreams do come true as Southwick rise to the dizzying heights of top spot in the Premier Division after an epic 6-4 victory over Ryhope Foresters.

Southwick’s excellent forward line of Vardy and Neymar, aka Anthony Ross and Ash Davis, were in fine form and both netted early on.

Ross claimed a questionable second, but plaudits went to midfield maestro Micky Coghlan, who notched a hat-trick.

Farringdon Detached earned a comfortable 4-2 win over O’Brien Waste Recycling, who slipped to the foot of the table.

Jordan Wolfendale hit a brace on a rare start, then Willie Crew made it 3-0. Michael Conlon and an excellent effort from Liam Wooton reduced the deficit, but Josh Tuckwell’s late strike made sure of the win. Conor Souter stood out for O’Brien.
