Sunderland Sunday League: Red-hot Rogerson's five alive in Railway Club romp

Rogerson found the net five times to lead the way. Young Bradley Timm is proving he is the best Timm in the family after grabbing a double to continue his goalscoring streak.

Lee Patton grabbed a consolation goal for Kings Arms, but the Railway weren’t finished and Smith and Tansey both scored to finish the rout.

The Lansdowne made it 13 league wins off the trot after beating second-placed Martin Telfer Carpetsy.

Star man Kristian Tyson capped a tremendous display with two fine goals. Henderson brought the Carpetmen back into the game after he nodded past Nathan Brown in the Lansdowne goal.

But Tom Smith’s youngsters have the league title in their sights and made sure of victory in style. David Gill continued his fine run of form and found the net, too, and Gareth Murray rounded the scoring with a late goal.

Lakeside SSC pulled further away from the bottom two after beating Penshaw CC 3-1.

Duffy and Barrass got the first two goals before Penshaw had McGhee pulling one back. But star man Mark Barrass turned provider as he set up Aiden Stoker to bury his effort past the Penshaw keeper for a killer third goal.

Hendon Athletic were buoyed on by the return of the “son of Pele” Martin Smith, and they duly cruised to a 6-1 win at Ryhope CW in Division Four.

Smith was quick to shine, finishing off a great move for the opener. Ryhope could not contain the visitors’ free-flowing football and Newby slotted home for 2-0. Deacon notched with a fine, curling effort after great work by Rowntree and Smith and his curling effort flew into the top corner.

Scott Johnstone made it 4-0 in a goalmouth scramble before Ryhope pulled a goal back through Bannan.

Liam Noble capped his return by volleying home the goal of the game for 5-1, with Jimmy Cook having the last word with a ridiculous overhead kick that even Martin Smith stood and clapped.

Park View and Wear United shared the spoils in a dramatic 3-3 draw.

United dominated early on and soon took the lead through Sheriff. Good goalkeeping kept Park View at bay, but the home side kept on knocking and Robinson got through to equalise.

They soon took the lead through Goldsmith, whose effort found the top corner after a good save from the keeper. United levelled at 2-2 as Dan Musther beat the keeper direct from a corner, then they swept in front as Sheriff did well to beat his man and finish in style.

But Park View staged a Roy of the Rovers finish to level, with goalkeeper Troy Baker getting up to head home a corner to the dismay of the visiting sideline.

East Rainton recorded another emphatic win over basement boys The Saltgrass, who still seem to be the whipping boys of the league but still have got a lot of heart turning out.

The Gaunt brothers were in form with Jon hitting a hat-trick and Lee grabbing a brace. Saltgrass nicked a consolation goal, but Rainton made sure with of the win as Saunders, Hopps and Andy Shepherd increased the scoreline, and their lead at the top of the table.

Title hopefuls Victoria Gardens extended their unbeaten run with a dominant 4-0 win over Westmount.

Brad Davis opened the scoring with a wind-assisted goal from almost 40 yards, then Adam Campbell marked his return to the side with a well-taken brace to prove why he is the club’s No 1 striker.

Gardens secured the win after Devlin hit the fourth with a clinical finish to continue his good scoring run.

Farringdon ISL were back to their usual selves in the only Premier Division game, demolishing Ryhope Foresters 7-1.

They had a better turnout than the previous week and their stars had them romp to a 5-0 lead at the break, as Page and new signing Bogie both hit doubles and David “Busta” Paul hit the fifth.

Chris Bell scored soon after the restart before Foresters’ Dan Armstrong replied with a delightful lob over Donaldson to find the top corner. Paul completed the scoring with a clinical finish late on.

A goal of the season contender from Costa Loraine was not enough for Washington New Tavern, who were beaten 3-1 by visitorsTC in Division Two.

Padget cancelled out Tavern’s opener with a great strike.

The away side smelt victory and they secured their much-needed win when Slater and Tasker scored

Free Gardeners Arms nearly threw the game away against New Town after dominating in spells and taking a two-goal lead, courtesy of Mark Lister and Darren Green.

Paul Mitchell saw red after receiving two yellow cards and that gave New Town hope. Charlie Salicki soon fired past Fleming to reduce the deficit.

But, in the dying minutes, the visitors were guilty of poor finishing and a couple of good saves from Fleming earned Gardeners the points.
