Sunderland Sunday League: Plastics fantastic as Premier side are sunk in League Cup semi-final shoot-out

Second Division TC Plastics sent shockwaves through the league after dumping Premier Division giants Hylton Castle TWR of the Hendersons Butchers-backed League Cup, reaching the final in the process.

Plastics continue their excellent season so far to advance, winning the penalty shoot-out 3-2 after an entertaining 3-3 draw.

Stephenson, Stokoe and Tench steered Plastics into the shoot-out, while Hylton had Cook, Callaghan and Gordon find the net.

Southwick turned on the style to make sure they advanced past the impressive Myers side, winning their fourth round tie 5-2.

James Fairley was back to his best and grabbed a double to set Southwick on their way to victory, while Micky Coghlan wowed the crowd with an outstanding performance and a goal to match.

Myers did reply with two quick goals from Alan Golightly and Liam Gill, but it was to be Southwick’s day and Paul Kane’s double sent them into the next round.

It was goals galore as The Stumble Inn and Hendon drew 5-5, before the hosts squeezed through 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out in the third round of the Billy Pemberton Memorial Cup.

Hendon’s new signing Daz Morse endured a torrid time between the sticks and suffered a terrible debut. Stumble had Antliff scoring, then Robson hit a brace followed by a Thubron brace.

But Hendon had an answer to each of their goals as Keith Reay hit two screamers, then Lee Owens, Montgomery and a late equaliser by Mick Gilby took the tie to penalties.

Welsh and Carrick missed the vital spot-kicks as Stumble won the shoot-out.

The Board Inn did not have much trouble from Victory Club as they sailed into the next round with an easy 8-0 win. Sam Wigham’s hat-trick led the way, backed by Dagg (2), Joshua Wigham, Ellison and Fairweather.

Jolly Potters’ experience shone through as they managed to knock Millfield Oddies out of the cup with a 3-1 win.

Man of the match Baker fired the first and Micky Copeland found the net to double the lead. Barrs pulled a goal back for Oddies to make a game of it, but Gary Shemmings’ men kept plugging away and Ryan Bussey hit the clincher.

AFC Wearside got off to a flier as Jason Calvert put them in front with a goal in the opening minutes.

But Ashbrooke Sports Club turn on the style and produce a dominating performance to outgun them with four unanswered goals. Matty Teasdale grabbed a brace, with Lewis Collinson volleying home and sub Clark Stead making it four.

In the only fourth round tie, Washington Colliery’s goalkeeper saw red early doors and Ryhope Railway Inn took full advantage to run out easy 4-0 winners.

Craig Vincent finished the game with a brace, while Danny Austin and Ben Rowlands increased the lead.

Burnett starred for the Washington side.

The floodgates opened at Silksworth Park as Silksworth Paragon entertained the nine men of Ryhope Top House in the Total Sport Challenge Trophy.

The visitors were no match for their Premier counterparts and the poor Scott Wallace had to pick the ball out of the net 12 times.

McCain, McCabe and man of the match Lewis Lynn all hit four goals each. Brogan Smith shone for Top House. 

Oddies claimed three important points in the First Division title race after beating second-placed Redhouse Last Orders 4-3.

Oddie’ Luke Taylor hit a well-taken brace and star man Anth Hammond was also on the scoresheet. Marc Moon hit a doubleas Redhouse rallied, followed by Stokoe poking home a leveller, but Oddies had the last laugh and Michael “Chip” Bulmer hit the winner

The Royal Marine staged an impressive fightback against Harbour View but fell short in a 4-3 defeat.

The home side were untouchable in the first half and notched four unanswered goals. But Marine showed a lot of spirit to battle back through Maggiore, Collins and McGill, and they were unlucky not to get a late equaliser, with Harbour’s keeper making an outstanding save.

Thorney Close Inn are beginning to look like the team of old and they continue their mini unbeaten run with a 3-2 win over Pennywell Comrades.

A Craig Collins brace had them in front by half-time, but Pennywell drew level midway through the second half after Glenwright and Clish scored. But the points were secured when Kris “Jonna” Johnson scored a delicate chip over the keeper.

O’Brien Waste Recycling’s superstar signing Nath O’Neill started the scoring to set up an impressive 3-0 win over Farringdon Detached.

David Fairs and Steven Anderson also scored to increase O’Brien’s lead at the top of the table.

The Vane Arms are going through a tough time at the moment and Willow Pond were in no mood to give them a helping hand.

It was a tight affair most of the first half, but Cresswell gave Willow the lead.

The game didn’t come to life until Connor Gales entered the fray and the sub bagged an impressive hat-trick to seal a 4-0 victory.

Warren Cassap ran the show for Willow, with Ben Stokoe top man for Vane.
