Sunderland Sunday League: It's a great Storey as Adam inspires Florists' final flourish

Florists proved too strong for the newly-crowned First Division champions in the final, running out deserved 4-2 winners.

Sub John Turvey, Andrew Place, David Rush and man of the match Adam Storey hit the goals for Premier outfit RCA, while wing wizard Davey Stevens grabbed an impressive brace in reply, but it wasn’t enough for Farringdon, whose star man was Mark Robinson.

The last cup final of the season is at Ford Quarry tomorrow, with Hylton Castle TWR Bifold Doors up against SR Dons, with the Total Sport Challenge Cup up for grabs (10.30am kick-off).

Farringdon ISL were crowned Premier Division champions after they despatched SR Dons 4-2 away from home for a 14th win 18 league games.

They were given a helping hand after Hylton Castle TWR Bifold Doors lost 3-2 to Hendersons Butchers.

Captain marvel Luke Page was at his best for Farringon and capped his performance with a fine goal. Bryan Norton and Rick Maughan increased the lead before Mathew Morris came off the bench to hit the fourth. Diamond and Hall replied late on for Dons.

Hendersons Butchers continued their good run with a 3-2 win over Hylton Castle TWR.

Danny Hodgson saw red for Hylton after Liam Wooton and Kevin Gordon scored, but the Butchers rallied to win the game courtesy of John Coomber, Richie Jordan and Danny Makin.

Leighton Cooney starred in vain as The Ashbrooke lost 2-0 at bottom club Myers to confirm their relegation.

In midweek, The Ashbrooke had given themselves hope by thumping Myers 5-1.

Star man Scott Hembrough hit the first before Mark Green rolled back the years with a superb double. Dean Smith and Callum Charlton made sure of the win.

Hylton Castle had outgunned Silksworth Paragon 5-0. David Smith was star man for Paragon between the sticks but couldn’t do anything as Cresswell, Gordon, Callaghan and a brace from Michael Charlton secured a convincing win.

On the Thursday, Hendersons Butchers moved into second place with a 3-1 over Myers. Alan Bate and Jonny Greener (2) netted.

Hylton Castle TWR also lost 3-2 to RCA Grangetown Florists. Tom Callaghan did his best for TWR with a double but Rush, Turney and Andy Place have the visitors the edge.

Third Division runners-up Ashbrooke Sports Club ended their campaign with an 18th win in 20 league games, 2-1 at third-top Board Inn.

Clark Stead came off the bench to grab a late winner for Ashbrooke. Before that, Michael Hackett put the Board Inn into the lead and Josh Perry levelled things.

David Dixon starred for Ashbrooke, with Harry Graham best for Board Inn, who ended up 16 points adrift of Ashbrooke, who were a point behind champions The Lansdowne.

Board Inn earlier shared the spoils with Penshaw CC in a 2-2 draw. Michael Hackett starredfor Board Inn, bagging a double in the process, while Kristofer Kane and Jonathan Snelling rescued a point for Penshaw.

Mid-table Washington Colliery signed off with a 3-0 defeat of Lakeside SSC, whose top performer was James Stephenson.

Lakeside finished third-bottom but well clear of relegated pair Kings Arms and Mountain Daisy F&M Underdogs.
