Sunderland Sunday League: Hollern makes big noise as Wearmouth CW Juniors inflict first defeat on Silksworth Catholic Club

Their 3-2 success handed Silkworth Catholic Club their first league defeat.

Danny Pattison and Brent Brooke scored for Silksworth, but, when Gav McAnaney saw red, Wearmouth capitalised to seal the win. Samson Adekola starred for Wearmouth, with Anthony Brooke best for the hosts.

TC heaped more pressure on Westmount with a comfortable 5-2 win.

Paul Wilkinson (2), David Tasker, Peter Thompson and Carl Jones all struck, while Westmount had Seth Joez and Joe Reynolds on target, with Ian Whelan star man.

Chris Robins, David Laing (2), Tony Barrs, Paul Maw and Alan Rose all scored in a 6-0 defeat of The Dolphin to send MIllfield Oddies up to joint second place.

Dolphin, however, are rooted to second-bottom spot, despite Karl Hodgson’s star-man display. Kyle Dinsdale starred for Oddies.

The Park chalked up another victory, 4-3 at basement boys Ryhope New Railway.

The Park had Lewis Fairley, Jordan Ayre, Connor Gales and Paul Ridley to thank for the win with fine goals. The hosts had a good go, with Shaun Gibson, Kieran Nixon and Robbie Middlebrook firing past Jon Fenwick , but Park held on. Jordan Sweeney shone for New Railway.

Grange Park went goal crazy again, with Railway Tavern put to the sword, 9-0.

Shaun Fisk had a blinder with a first-half treble, backed by Gaz Harding (2), Liam Grimes, Nathan Groom and Rob Burnell. Mark Mason shone in vain for Railway.

Millfield Free Gardeners Arms suffered their seventh league defeat, as fellow strugglers Park View ran out 3-0 winners.

Robbie Robson, Jack Callaghan and Jordon Southern did the damage, with Reece Benson starring. Jake Taylor stood out for Gardeners.

Wear United are unbeaten in three after a tight 2-2 draw with Penshaw CC.

Andrew Meikle starred in the heart of United’s defence, but could not stop Sean Williams and Liam Binks scoring for Penshaw, whose star man was Andrew Hayden. Mark Doleman and super sub Luke Tate levelled it up.

The Cherry Tree looked to have secured another win, but Lee Williams had other ideas and came off the bench to rescue a point for Washington New Tavern in a 2-2 Second Division draw.

Carl Longstaff and Kieron Pitkin scored for the Cherries, but Craig Neal and Williams squared the game. Scott Turnes shone for Tavern.

Josh Campbell and Andrew Donnelly set AFC Wearside up for a 3-1 win over Martin Telfer Carpets. Adam Pike pulled one back, but an own goal from keeper David Peake sealed Wearside’s success.

James Gollagly shone for AFC, with Steven Trotter best for Telfer.

Player-manager Anth Carter rolled back the years with a fine performance and a hat-trick as Hendon Athletic made easy work of Lakeside SSC.

Richie Timm started the scoring with an excellent 40-yard free-kick into the top corner, while Adam Wasey also scored in a 5-1 victory. Aiden Stoker scored a carbon copy of Timm’s free-kick for Lakeside’s consolation.

Jonny Roberts and Chris Bell scored for Washington Colliery to edge a close 2-1 win against promotion hopefuls Pennywell Comrades, with Michael Brunning replying.

Keeper Connor Binney was outstanding for Washington.

Railway Club took advantage of Mill View CIU’s poor form and thumped them 5-0. Gary Tyzack (2), Bradley Timm, Ross Taylor and Anth Yates all struck, with Daniel Tough starring. Stephen Conlin stood out for Mill.

Hot-shot Rob Calvert hit a double to steer Victory Club home 3-2 against The Promenade. Paul Muir and Nathan Stavers levelled it up, but Adam Brown’s tasty free-kick clinched all three points.
