Sunderland Sunday League: Farringdon stunned by late rush as Florists hit them for six

But never-say-die Farringdon rallied as Ash Davis replied early in the second period. Bryan Norton haunted his old club by firing Farra’s second and Aidan Goodey equalised 10 minutes from time. But, instead of shutting up shop and claiming a well-earned point, Farringdon went for the win.

But RCA had other plans and caught them napping, netting a further three times. Place hit another to secure his hat-trick, then Davis and Storey steered RCA home 6-3.

Lewis Herron’s double steered Silksworth Paragon home 3-0 at The Ashbrooke to go top of the table. Michael McCabe hit the third. Curtis shone for Paragon, with Davis best for Ashbrooke.

Title favourites Hylton Castle TWR Bifold Doors secured an impressive 2-0 win over surprise package SR Dons. Callaghan produced a man-of-the-match performance and opened the scoring, with sub Thubron adding the second.

Hendersons Butchers moved into mid-table with a 3-1 win over second-bottom Ryhope Foresters, griinding out a hard-fought win with just 11 available players James Cassidy, Richie Jordan and Baxter all netted before Marsh replied. Lee Smith was outstanding for the hosts.

Southwick’s rallying call was answered after a couple of turbulent few weeks.

James Fairley showed why he is hot property, scoring a classy double to beat Myers 2-1, leaving their visitors rooted to the foot of the table. Star man Barney Dobinson stole the show, while Myers reduced the deficit with an Anth Rogerson goal, which turned out to be a leaving present as he soon transferred to Third Division Railway Club.

O’Brien Waste Recycling claimed another scalp to go top of the First Division.

They beat Willow Pond by the odd goal in three to take another step toward the title, with Stephen Anderson and David Fairs scoring. Star man King replied for Willow.

Harbour View won the battle of the bottom two with a close-fought 3-2 win over Pennywell Comrades. Appleby, Quinn and Holyoak notched for the hosts, wit Glenwright and Clish replying.

Michael “chip” Bulmer is loving life at Oddies since his transfer from Southwick, and he capped an excellent performance by grabbing a hat-trick to earn Oddies a 3-2 win over Ryhope Top House.

Top House had chances to get something from the game as Hulley and McConnell reduced the deficit, but Oddies held on in a nervy finish.

Farringdon Detached outgunned The Royal Marine 6-2. Ramshaw hit a brace, followed by goals Stevens, Baker, Burns and star man Curtis. Marine had Clifton and Collins on target late on.

Vane Arms grabbed a vital point in a 1-1 draw against tricky Thorney Close Inn. Greenwell fired Thorney into an early lead, but Vane rallied and Ben Stokoe popped up with the leveller.

East Rainton sought revenge on Hendon Athletic after the previous week’s defeat and they came up trumps with a 3-0 win to blow the battle at the top of Division Four wide open again.

Andy Shepherd nodded home a free-kick in the first quarter and Jon Gaunt fired home a dubious penalty to double the lead. Rainton took advantage of poor defensive play and a stray ball got the home side on the attack and Ryan Shaw slid the ball home.

Athletic did bounce back after their awful opening 25 minutes, but, after dominating, they could not find the net after finding Dean Caris in fine form in goal.

Ryhope CW recorded a much-needed win, beating Wearmouth CW Juniors 5-2 to pull away from the bottom of the league. Brent Brooke hit a double, then Pattison and McAnaney made it 4-0. Wearmouth hit back with goals from Wilkinson and Holren, but it wasn’t enough and Troy Metcalfe volleyed home Ryhope’s fifth goal.

Victoria Gardens recorded another win, 7-3 against Park View, to keep,the pressure on title favourites East Rainton.

Callum Hope filled the boots of Kev Humble and grabbed a hat-trick. Wright, Devlin and Lonsdale increased the lead before Park View hit back through Benson, Robinson and an own goal from Anth Rathbone. But the Vics still had the last word, with sub Kade Tyrell notching.

Wear United piled more pressure on Saltgrass with a 4-3 away win.

Sheriff started the scoring with a well-taken double and Wayne Barnes increased their lead. Saltgrass hit back and grabbed two quick goals, but United held firm for the win and Michael Parkin made sure with a late goal. Saltgrass did manage another goal, but it was a mere consolation.
