Houghton-le-Spring teenager Poppy Pattinson has helped England Under-17s to within touching distance of the UEFA Women’s European Championships finals.

The young lionesses have got off to a flyer in Group Three, winning their opening two fixtures to all but secure their progression to the finals in the Czech Republic in May.

Former Kepier School pupil Pattinson, who plays for Sunderland Ladies, has completed the full 80 minutes in both of England’s victories - a 2-0 win over Poland on Saturday, and a narrow 2-1 win over Germany at AFC Telford’s Stadium on Monday.

Pattinson, who has played all five of the qualifiers under boss John Griffiths, will again line up for in the nation’s closing Elite Round clash against Italy tomorrow.

A draw would be enough to ensure 16-year-old Pattinson & Co progress.

The final group game will be played at main stadium at the England national training base at St George’s Park, Burton-on-Trent. Kick off tomorrow is at 2pm.
