After beating Washington AFC and Boldon CA in the previous rounds, the young Black Cats were sat to tackle the Northern League side on the evening of Wednesday, December 18.

But after a deep chill gripped the north east, the game has now been postponed after the Eppleton CW pitch remained frozen throughout the day leading up to the clash.

Confirming the postponement, a club statement read: “Tonight's Durham FA Challenge Cup tie against Willington AFC at Eppleton CW has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

“A new date for the game will be confirmed shortly.”

Earlier this week, assistant manager Steve Parkin had hinted that some first team players could be involved in the clash.

Elliott Dickman’s side are now not set to return to action until January 6, when they travel to Aston Villa in Premier League 2.
