The winger left Sunderland for the Valley on deadline day, sealing a half-season loan switch after being told he had no future at the Stadium of Light by manager Phil Parkinson.

But he is yet to feature for his new club, and was left out the squad entirely for the Addicks’ 3-1 defeat at Stoke City.

And Charlton confirmed that McGeady’s absence was due to an illness rather than anything more sinister.
